Carol A. Ammon Case Competition

Carol A. Ammon Case Competition

The Carol A. Ammon Case Competition is made possible by the generous support of Endo Pharmaceuticals and named for the company's founder, Carol A. Ammon. The competition is offered to enhance students' analytical and presentation skills, expand students’ business vocabulary and expose them to a vital audience of regional corporate leaders. Graduate students work in teams and use public data surrounding a particular focal company and present recommendations to judges and stakeholders. Team presentations are judged in two rounds. The preliminary round is judged by alumni and friends of the UD MBA program. Judges for the final round will include leaders of several regional firms.

The 2015 Carol A. Ammon Case Competition was held on Friday, March 20th at the Lerner College of Business and Economics.  This year’s case focused on the local nonprofit organization, Cancer Care Connection. Employees from the organization were on hand for the big reveal to a packed house on Friday, February 27th

Team members spent Friday afternoon, March 6th touring the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center to gain a better understanding of how life changes for those with cancer diagnoses. On Friday, March 13th, an industry roundtable pulled in experts from another local nonprofit, a former cancer caregiver, a University of Delaware sport management professor, and a cancer resource coach from the Cancer Care Connection. Participating students peppered them with questions as they solidified their presentation strategies.

Competition Day dawned with snow and ice, but that did not deter the 77 students or 15 volunteer judges from getting an early start. With 20 registered teams, the first round judges had their hands full narrowing the field down to three finalists.

The final round judges, executives and staff from Cancer Care Connection were delighted with what they heard.  They had the onerous task of choosing the winners.  The UDaily article linked below gives a great account of the competition and lists the students on the winning teams.
